Person on comment #2, I would like to agree with you on some of what you just said:

""I don’t mind the phrase “soul winning” much. I use it. Spurgeon used it. Unfortunately, it’s been miss-defined and abused for years…but then again so has the word “ministry”, “church”, and especially “preaching.”""

I also agree with the last quote of the messenger..."trust God to draw the sinner without any scheming on our part."

But what i would really like to ask, in my honest conviction, i do not believe we are able to win souls, John 16, for it is wholly the work of the Holy Spirit. We might deliver the message or be examples but to win a soul is not our responsibility so why do so many pastors try to get their members involved in winning them when it is only the Holy Spirit who can draw them?

Hey! I guess since you're blogging again I should probably give it another whirl.

"Soft Soul Winning" is right...soft because so many make it quick and easy...like microwave popcorn.

I don't mind the phrase "soul winning" much. I use it. Spurgeon used it. Unfortunately, it's been misdefined and abused for years...but then again so has the word "ministry", "church", and especially "preaching."

Good post. BLOG MORE!

Speaking of phrases not used in the Bible, here's one: "take an offering."

You make a very clear eyed statement. I think that Americans are so results driven that we spend little time praying for the opportunity to share our faith and the ability to share it clearly. More and more I'm turning first to consistent prayer, waiting for God to open the opportunity, and praying for the enablement to faithfully take the opportunities He provides.

At the same time, I am genuinely cultivating relationships that I'm praying and hoping lead to discipleship opportunities.
